My story

My name is Michal Szpak. In America, everyone calls me Mike.

I grew up in Przemyśl, a small city in Poland. At 18 I moved to Warsaw to study acting. Being an actor was my dream for as long as I can remember. But by graduation, I knew I belonged on the other side of the camera.

That same year, I bought a one-way ticket to Texas. In Poland we say kto nie ryzykuje, ten nie pije szampana: no risk, no champagne. I came to study film directing and production at the Art Institute of Houston.

Then real life happened. You wouldn't believe how many jobs I've had: restaurants, bars, management, driving, construction, office work, security, night shifts. Every one of them showed me how a business really works from the inside: what customers notice, what owners worry about, what makes people come back. That's why I don't just make nice-looking videos. I understand your business.

And I never stopped making things. In my last year in Houston, I directed and produced the play God of Carnage, working for a year with first-time actors until they owned the stage. Then I moved to Austin, and that same year I directed and produced my film Overnight Paradise, which screened at Polish film festivals in Houston and Austin, and back home in Przemyśl.

Today I direct films, report from the US for Polish television, and help businesses tell their stories. I'm still building my way up, and I share all of it on YouTube, the good weeks and the slow ones.

That's why More Than Mike exists. We're all more than one job. Your business is more than one ad.
